Cyndra Bradford

“I grew up in Big Sur on Partington Ridge. Both of my parents were noted artists. Growing up under the easel, my five siblings and I had as much paper and art supplies we could use. In Big Sur, we had no television reception and we spent our time drawing and reading. My father, Howard Bradford, taught me the craft of serigraphs and at age eighteen, I had dealers throughout the USA and by the age of 24, became a member of the prestigious Carmel Art Association.

Horses were always a passion for me, I drew them on everything as a child, but when I became a professional artist, I only painted landscapes, which led me to open Galerie Plein Air in 1999 to promote a group of plein air artists known as the Informalists. As I worked in the gallery full time, I was not able to get outdoors to paint as much, so I began studio painting. But my passion for painting Plein Air remains as does my love of painting horses.

I paint with oils and a palette knife. I like to capture the immediacy of the moment. In my experience, most truth and artistry in painting lies in its inherent spontaneity”.

My art is essentially an attempt to communicate the beauty and joy of nature through the use of color and texture. My joy comes from the creative process of painting.
